- He was a runner up in the Titus Limerick Contest in 2000, five-line poems intended to summarize the story of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus
- Mike won first prize in the Pitch a Play contest in 2003. A Shakespeare play had to be condensed to 100 or fewer words for presentation to a fictitious film producer
